pre-school for Stamford 3 & 4 year old children.
Stamford Head Start is
open to all residents of Stamford whose family income is at or below
the federal poverty level. The program provides 10 Locations.
Stamford Head Start addresses
a childs needs in all areas of development physical,
social, emotional and cognitive. The Stamford Head Start program
provides health screenings completed within the first 45 days of
attendance. Further, development assessments are conducted three
times per year. There is one family service worker per 35 families
and 10% of the available slots are for kids with disabilities. The
Parent Policy Council serves as an oversight board and monthly family
committee meetings are held at each location.
The Stamford Head Start
Program utilizes The Creative Curriculum. A home-based, pre-natal
program is available. The program provides on-staff nurses, nutritionists
and family service workers. Stamford Head Start partners or collaborates
with Reading is Fundamental, The Stamford Hospital, Ferguson Library,
Women, Infant and Children (WIC), Department of Children and Families
and Domestic Violence.
Stamford Early Head
Start
Stamford Early Head Start
is an extension of Head Start for children under 3 years old and
pregnant women. Classes are extremely small and designed for children
who vary in physical abilities. A home-based program is provided
for children under 12 months old.
Stamford Even Start
For children and adults
from low-income families. Stamford Even Start provides early childhood
education and helps parents gain basic literacy and parenting skills.
